We are proud to have won the competition for Kannikhøyden, a site deeply rooted in Stavanger’s identity. Our proposal builds on Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff’s original plans and the historic landscape designed by gartner Paul Holst Poulsson, transforming the area into an open and vibrant destination for the whole city.
The design restores key elements of the historic park, re-establishing terraces, paths, and spatial sequences while preserving the site’s topography and natural character. All significant existing trees are retained, allowing the mature canopy to continue shaping the identity of Kannikhøyden.
New connections follow the terrain and strengthen the relationship between theatre, museum, and city. A shared foyer links the historic buildings, while carefully integrated new volumes ensure the park and its heritage structures remain the defining features.
Our approach transforms Kannikhøyden into an open, vibrant cultural landscape — shaped by its past, grounded in the present, and prepared for the future.
